These include coughs, colds, sore throats, scrapes, surface wounds, and ear infections, as well as basic laboratory tests like throat swabs and administering vaccinations.

Walk-in clinics can be located as a standalone clinic in a shopping center or other easily accessible center, inside of a retail store, or inside of an office tower.

Public health centers will often be located in an easily accessible area, with close proximity to the patients that they are focused on treating.

Urgent care operates on a similar system as a walk-in clinic, with patients being seen in the order that they are checked in.

Both options will treat patients who need medical attention but can’t wait to get into their family doctor, or don’t have a family doctor.

Urgent care is staffed with general practitioners and a variety of supporting medical staff, although they can also have additional doctors working on rotating schedules who are more specialized in different areas of medicine, such as orthopedic doctors and pediatricians.

Urgent care provides additional diagnostic testing services such as onsite laboratory services and x-rays, as well as the trained staff who can administer medications through an IV.

With additional testing services such as x-rays, urgent care doctors can set and cast fractured bones and perform more advanced medical treatments.

Walk-in clinics offer services to patients during standard business hours with some clinics offering extended early evening and weekend hours.

Urgent care operates evenings and weekends to ensure that patients can receive medical care when they need it, without them having to make a visit to the hospital emergency room.
